The research covers the question of specifics in application of the term «Objective design» in theory and practice of design. The semantic significance of this term, its perception and competence in professional circles is also considered. The research includes a set of general scientific methods (historical-comparative and chronological, a method of terminological analysis), which helped to identify and consider official definitions of the term «industrial design» as well as terminological interpretations of the term «Objective design». The article covers the question concerning evolution of the term «industrial design», its official definitions, including the latter, adopted in 2015 by the ICSID Professional Practice Committee at the 29th General Assembly of this organization held in Gwangju (South Korea); the author's
translation of this term into Russian is also presented. The originality of this term in the territory of the post-Soviet republics is
indicated – «artistic design» and its application at the present stage. The semantic divergence of the terms «Industrial Design»
and «Product Design» is also shown; recognizes the fact that today there is no official generally accepted interpretation of this concept, both in our territories and abroad. The appearance of the term «Objective design» and its application in modern design practice, its semantic significance and perception in professional circles is considered. It has been clarified that at the moment there is no definitely formulated essence of the term «Objective design», no differences in this design have been identified or described, and the range of objects of this process is not specified in detail. Scientific novelty. In this study the scientific novelty is to broaden the understanding of complex consideration of design terminology at the present stage. Practical significance. The results of the research can be used in project activities of industrial designers, for a more systematic and effective organization of relations «Consumer – Designer – Manufacturer».
