The study examines the main aspects of the nature and evolution of approaches to the interpretation of the concept of organizational and economic management mechanism (OEMM), which allows to define the modern paradigm of the effective functioning of a higher education institution (HEI) in the context the digital transformation of society. The study includes an analysis of historical and modern approaches to the interpretation of the organizational and economic management mechanism, various interpretations of its components are considered, as well as main factors that influencing development, among which digitalization is one of the key elements. The study emphasizes the concept of mechanism, its essence, genesis, and features definition as a way of interaction of certain elements. Particular attention is paid to analysis of the conceptual components of the organizational and economic mechanism management. The characteristics of the organizational mechanism are studied in the context of the functioning of the organization as an association of people, structure, process and technical system. The features of the economic mechanism and the management mechanism are analyzed separately. The study pays special attention to the complexity of the OEMM of a higher education institution, which combines organizational components, economic processes and management practices. The possibilities of digitalization of the structural elements of the organizational and economic management mechanism, their impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of higher education institutions as a source of intellectual potential of society are analyzed. The article examines how, in the context of the changing economic system in the period of digital transformation, the organizational and economic mechanism of a higher education institution as a complex integrative unity can ensure the sustainable development of higher education institution by incorporating digital means. The knowledge obtained as a result of the study on the implementation of digital technologies, allow higher education institutions to unlock the potential to improve the value proposition, gain flexibility and adaptability to modern challenges, increase competitiveness and market sustainability in a rapidly changing environment.
