Abstract

Purpose. Development of design-technological solutions for modern clothing with a high level of protection against ultraviolet (UV) radiation (so-called UPF clothing), combining functional and aesthetic concepts.

Methodology. The work uses a systematic approach and interdisciplinary analysis that combines fashion technologies, textile technologies, and design-ergonomic solutions. An analysis of scientific sources on the impact of UV radiation on the human body and the functional properties of materials was conducted; a review and comparison of UPF clothing collections of modern brands by categories and technological characteristics; an artistic and design analysis of forms, compositions, and colors was conducted.

Results. Analysis of modern approaches to the design of UPF clothing showed that effective protection against UV radiation is achieved through a combination of materials with a high UPF level, constructive and technological solutions (the presence of hoods, half-gloves, extended sleeves). Research into the collections of leading brands allowed us to classify design strategies by categories: special, fashion, outdoor and mass market; to identify the key characteristics of each category and to assess the ratio of functionality and aesthetics. Experimental implementation of constructive solutions allowed us to produce prototypes of clothing for protection against UV radiation. The proposed designs provide maximum body coverage, an appropriate level of protection, and in terms of aesthetic, ergonomic (constructive) and technological quality indicators, they meet modern requirements for clothing for protection against UV radiation.

Scientific novelty. The study confirms that the design of UPF clothing is an interdisciplinary field that synthesizes fashion design, functional properties of materials, technologies and design-ergonomic solutions. An approach to classifying design solutions in the field of UPF clothing by brand categories and levels of protection has been developed, which is a tool for further integration of design solutions and protection effectiveness into a comprehensive scientific and practical study. Optimal principles for designing clothing for protection against UV radiation in the context of interdisciplinary interaction of fashion design and textile technologies have been determined.

Practical significance. The results of the study can be used to develop UPF clothing collections that combine a high level of protection (UPF 30–50+), comfort and modern design. The classification of brands, materials and technologies allows to optimize the choice of textile materials with protection levels and structures, and increase the competitiveness of products in the market.
